Plein Air Painting Workshop - Toronto - Sunday, June 22nd
Painting Workshop
Introduction to Plein Air: Anywhere can be your Studio!
Date: Sunday, June 22nd
Time: 1-4 pm
Workshop Description
“En plein air” — a French expression meaning “in the open air” — describes the immersive practice of creating art outdoors. In this one-day, three-hour workshop led by plein air painter Christeen Awad, participants will be introduced to the plein air process, engage all their senses, and discover the joy of using the outdoors as their studio.
Designed for all levels, this session emphasizes intuitive self-expression, foundational painting techniques, and our relationship with the environment. Whether you're a first-time painter or brushing up on your skills, this workshop offers a grounding, exploratory experience through a blend of technique and personal connection.
We’ll begin with a short 15-minute walk to Grange Park from Gallery 222—an intentional part of the experience. The journey itself is integral to the plein air process, grounding us in our environment and setting the tone for mindful observation and creation. (Optional: you can meet us at the far west end of the park in front of a large colonial style building with steps- at 1:40 pm)
Led by plein air painter Christeen Awad, who has spent over a decade honing in on her fine arts practice, this workshop will cover composition, mark-making, and foundational plein air techniques. A demo and guided lesson will introduce atmospheric perspective, shape, and texture.
Following this, participants will spend 1–1.5 hours sketching and painting in a beautiful outdoor setting, with one-on-one guidance as Christeen circulates.
Expect to encounter the elements — sun, rain, breeze, bugs, uneven paths — as part of this meditative adventure.
All materials are provided, but you’re welcome to bring your favorite supplies. Please dress for the weather and terrain.
If needed; we have 3 free community tickets, please email contact@christeenawad.com for more information.
